For a date night on Akron’s northwest side, Crust & Cocktails seats fifty-five in Liberty Commons. Share an antipasto, split a pizza, order wine by the glass and finish with tiramisu. The room opens at four Monday through Friday and at eleven on Saturday and Sunday.
Fifty-five seats is the whole argument. A small room does something a big one cannot: it makes an ordinary Tuesday feel like you went somewhere. Nobody is shouting, nothing is on a timer, and the table is yours for as long as you want it.
Open with something to share. The Charcuterie Board at $19 is the generous move — chef-choice cheeses, prosciutto, a cured meat, pickled vegetables, grapes and crackers — and it buys you twenty minutes of talking before any decisions have to be made. If you want something lighter, the Burrata Bruschetta at $12 or the Tuscan Fig & Cheese Crostini at $9 do the same job faster.
Then split a pizza. Two people and one $17 pizza plus an antipasto is the right arithmetic here. Margherita if you want to taste the ingredients, Truffled Wild Mushroom if it is cold out, Braised Short Rib at $18 if the evening is meant to be a bit of an occasion. Add the Arugula & Pear salad at $12 and you have a dinner rather than a snack.
Drink deliberately. Wine comes by the glass so you can each have something different — a Chianti and a Pinot Grigio at $11 and $12 rather than a bottle you both have to agree on. Craft cocktails are built to order at the bar; ask what they are making tonight. Tiramisu at $11 is the only dessert, which makes the end of the meal an easy decision.
The bar seats keep you close to the cocktail list and are often the last places free after the tables fill.
The thing a small room gives you that a large one cannot is time. Nobody is turning your table for a second sitting, because there is no second sitting to turn it for. You can order the antipasto, then decide about the pizza twenty minutes later, then decide about dessert twenty minutes after that, and the evening stretches to fit.
You order in the room, from the printed menu. Reservations are limited, so a date night here works best as a walk-in — arrive a little before seven on a Friday or Saturday and you will get a table without standing around.
Monday through Thursday the room is open four until eleven and stays unhurried all evening, which is the best version of this plan. Friday opens at four and runs until midnight; Saturday opens at eleven in the morning and runs until midnight; Sunday runs eleven to nine and makes a good early dinner.
